Thomas Horky

Thomas Horky is this year’s Roper Fund visiting professor in sports journalism

Thomas Horky will serve as the Lynn and Dana Roper Visiting Professor in Sports Journalism from August to October of 2022. Horky is a professor of sport communication at Macromedia University in Hamburg and he’s been teaching since 2009.

Michael Stricklin

Obituary: Michael Stricklin

The term Renaissance man -- a person with wide interests and accomplishments -- is a perfect fit applied to the life of Michael L. Stricklin. A journalist and educator with unbounded generosity and a servant's heart, Mike died Sept. 2 at his home in Hillsboro, Ore., surrounded by his family. Mike had a 28-year-long career teaching and doing communications research at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

My junior year of high school, I came to a four-day summer camp workshop hosted by the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. I met a few professors and worked on some hands-on broadcasting and media projects. That experience planted a seed and solidified my vision—I knew I wanted to come to Nebraska for college. It was an easy decision.

We have created one universal application for courses, competitions and ADPR/BRDC Media Production Capstones, including the Bateman Case Study Competition Team, the National Student Advertising Competition Team, Jacht Agency and Global Eyewitness. You will complete one application and then answer questions specific to the course(s) to which you are applying. 

The Spring 2023 application is now open so read below for more details.
