Shore was selected as September Student of the Month

The UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications Student Advisory Board voted to select Henry Shore as the inaugural Student of the Month on Sept. 29, 2022. Shore is a junior broadcasting major from Brookfield, Wisconsin.

Bestselling author Candice Millard will deliver the 27th annual Governor’s Lecture in the Humanities on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at the Lied Center for Performing Arts in Lincoln. Also available for livestreaming at enthompson.unl.edu, the conversation-style event titled, “A Clear and Steady Eye: Storytelling and Our Shared History,” will be moderated by Rick Alloway, Associate Professor of Broadcasting at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL).

Trudy Burge

Obituary: Trudy Burge

Trudy Burge died August 21, 2022. She lived with several chronic illnesses and was a cancer survivor. Trudy grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan and Boulder, Colorado. She had lived in Lincoln, Nebraska since 1983.

Student editorial board members to oversee CoJMC’s media platforms

Nine students at the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications were recently chosen to serve on the CoJMC Student Editorial Board. The board launched in the spring 2022 semester and will oversee and manage student-created content on the Nebraska News Service, Nebraska Nightly, Unlimited Sports and 90.3 KRNU.

Dean's Update: September 2022

Today is Democracy Day! The College of Journalism and Mass Communications is joining more than 300 news organizations nationwide to examine threats to democracy and how to engage in our democracy. The UNL chapter of Society of Professional Journalists is hosting an informational event on the meaning of democracy at the Nebraska Union Memorial Plaza and Nebraska News Service and other CoJMC platforms will be publishing articles starting today and running through the end of the semester on the democratic process and the role of journalism in our democracy. Our mission is grounded in the ethical pursuit of truth to uphold democracy. Supporting Democracy Day is just another example of what we do to enact that mission.

Perry studio and classroom open for students

This fall, students in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications won’t have to find space for photo shoots and interviews. A new digital photography studio and multimedia classroom opened in the Agency, located on the third floor of the Lincoln Children’s Museum, on Aug. 22.
