We had packed house over the weekend as alums traveled across the country to celebrate the life and legacy of Professor George Tuck. Speakers included CoJMC alums Jennifer Gutierrez (‘90), Mike Theiler (‘76), Julia Dean (‘92), Joel Sartore (‘85) and George and Mary Lynn’s dear friend Sherri Johnson. College launches search for six new faculty

The UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications launched a search in July 2022 for six additional faculty to join the college beginning in January or August 2023. The new positions will contribute to furthering the college’s strategic vision of being a national leader in experiential edu

Andersen Hall Construction Progress

We’ve had a very noisy summer so far in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. Construction continues on the Don and Lorena Meier TV Studio and Newsroom on the second floor in Andersen Hall. Over in The Agency, the Perry Family Photography Studio and Multimedia Classroom is getting new flooring, paint and a drop ceiling. We also wrapped up construction on the new Pepsi Unlimited Sports Lab earlier this summer and added a wall-wrap to KRNU's Roy Lenwell Studios.

Dean's Update: July 2022

We’ve had a very noisy summer so far in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. Construction continues on the Don and Lorena Meier TV Studio and Newsroom. Framing has started on the control room, which will house state-of-the-art technology and equipment to produce our college newscast and all the media our students can create. Incredible opportunities like the McCaffrey Scholarship support students on the cutting edge of emerging media.

Pepsi-Cola of Lincoln sponsors new sports media learning lab at Andersen Hall

The area that once housed Andersen Hall’s television studio has been converted into an open-concept sports media learning lab with the support of Pepsi-Cola of Lincoln. Starting this fall, the multimedia classroom will be a hub for all things Nebraska Sports and will be home to CoJMC’s Experience Lab Program UNLimited Sports.

McCaffrey scholarship continues to support students interested technology and emerging media

College of Journalism and Mass Communications alumna Cindy McCaffrey established the McCaffrey Emerging Media Scholarship in 2013 with a $100,000 gift to the University of Nebraska Foundation. The permanently endowed fund provides scholarships to students who want to pursue a technological-focused career in media.

2022 Nebraska Journalism Hall of Fame Inductees are Announced

Six inductees will join the Nebraska Journalism Hall of Fame during ceremonies to be held Saturday, October 22, 2022, at The Graduate Hotel, 141 N. 9th St., in Lincoln, NE. 2022 inductees include associate professor emeritus Tim Anderson and associate dean and journalism professor John Bender.

CoJMC junior LeAnne Bugay is finishing up her last week as a New Student Enrollment (NSE) leader at Nebraska. Last semester the advertising and public relations and journalism double major had a news and public relations internship with UNL’s newsroom Nebraska Today.

We haven’t been able to travel due to COVID-19, but we are bringing back the NYC Media Tour in fall 2022. Over fall break, Oct. 17 and 18, 2022, the college will tour media outlets and agencies in New York City.
