College of Journalism and Mass Communications alumni Ronald Ng (‘93), MRM Global Creative Director and Dionne Searcey (‘93), New York Times Reporter zoomed in to talk with CoJMC students about their vast experience in the world of global advertising and journalism.

On April 9, Ng discussed his work with international clients and today’s challenges in global advertising. Students in our introduction to advertising and public relations course also had the opportunity to ask Ng questions about his career.

“30+ years ago, I almost dropped out of college because I was a D student as a Business major, then I switched majors in Year 3 to majoring in Advertising and Broadcasting,” Ng said in a LinkedIn post. “Today I ‘returned’ to my alma mater as a guest speaker. Here’s to second chances and finding your thing.”

On April 18, Searcey shared about her experience as the former West and Central Africa Bureau Chief for The New York Times. Searcey has worked for The Times for the last 10 years.

Starting in April 2014, she worked for a year and a half as an Economics Reporter before starting her four-year role in Dakar, Senegal as the West and Central Africa Bureau Chief. After her time in Dakar, she moved into a politics reporting role (during which she was part of a team that earned a 2020 Putlizer in international reporting) before starting the role she has today as a full-time reporter in January 2021.
