Associate/Full Professor in Depth Reporting (Investigative or Data Journalism)

The Position The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications is seeking a tenure track associate/full professor in depth reporting, with expertise in investigative journalism or data journalism, to join our award-winning program as a Deepe Family Endowed Chair starting in August 2023. Funded by a $4.65 million dollar gift to the college, the Deepe Chairs will oversee our award-winning depth reporting program, where we spend a semester or more working on a single story with high-quality sources, graphics, data and multimedia components. In addition to teaching depth reporting or data journalism courses, the chairs will also teach in our core curriculum, advise student chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists and Investigative Reporters and Editors and travel with students to professional conferences and workshops, regularly publish scholarly or professional articles, contribute to the development of our curriculum, provide service to the college, university and profession and other assigned duties.

Assistant Professor in Media Law

The Position The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications is seeking a tenure track assistant professor in media law to join our award-winning program starting in August 2023. Responsibilities of the position include teaching the college’s media law course, a core requirement for every student across our programs, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, contributing to the development of curriculum, conducting and publishing research regularly, providing service to the college, university and profession and other duties as assigned.

Alumni Relations and Events Coordinator

The Position The Alumni Relations and Events Coordinator will develop, coordinate and evaluate programs and projects that promote alumni relations and are designed to connect alumni to the college of Journalism and Mass Communications. Will be responsible for maintaining, supporting and coordinating regular communication with alumni including, but not limited to, direct contact, email, web pages and social media. Furthermore, the Coordinator will research and develop content for alumni communications including newsletters, print publications, social media programs, videos and campaigns. This position will also plan, coordinate, attend and evaluate events, guest speakers, meetings and/or other activities that engage the colleges stakeholders. Events can include recruitment events, summer camps, outreach events, interview days, orientation activities, career and research fairs, end-of-year celebrations, student and alumni engagement, speakers, and other various networking events. This position may also provide general and administrative support to all aspects of outreach, recruitment, and engagement activities, College of Journalism staff and faculty, and administrative operations. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations, hospitality, management, communications or related field plus experience in marketing, communications, event planning or project management with a successful record of planned events utilizing applications such as Zoom, Mail Chimp, etc.; equivalent education/experience considered. Experience using spreadsheets, databases and relevant computer applications (Word, Excel, etc.). Experience working with or creating budgets. Event planning experience. Experience working with students, vendors, and administrators. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work as a team and network and build relationships with campus/community partners, vendors, and students. Well-developed administrative, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must be detail oriented. Preferred qualifications include experience in higher education and/or alumni relations. Experience with graphic design and/or video production.
