Technical Director

The position

The Technical Director will oversee the operations of the college’s television studios and FCC licensed radio station, 90.3 KRNU, with responsibilities for overseeing the audio and video studios equipment and production processes, setting up and maintaining audio and video equipment for college programs, providing technical support for programs, working with the practicum directors and operations director to plan and oversee future updates to the studios, providing accurate and complete equipment and maintenance costs, maintaining a budget and recommending new technologies for the facilities. Position will hire and oversee student production interns in the execution of these duties.

Associate’s degree in broadcast production, electrical engineering, or related field plus 3 years experience in broadcast production. Or, five (5) years of experience in broadcast production, equivalent education, or experience will be considered in lieu of an Associate’s degree.

The ideal candidate may have a Bachelor’s degree in broadcast production, electrical engineering, or related field plus 6 years experience in broadcast production. The position

Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs

The position

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communication is seeking an associate dean for research and faculty affairs to join our award-winning program starting in August 2022. Reporting to the dean, the Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs is a leader and champion in the areas of faculty development and support. The Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs provides college-level leadership, management and oversight of all policies, procedures and activities to support, develop, promote and evaluate faculty at all levels within the college; all managerial activities related to the evaluation and assignments of faculty including annual evaluations, third-year reviews and faculty promotions, research and teaching assignments.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop, maintain and update college bylaws, committee structure and voting procedures
  • Develop, maintain and update college policies and procedures, including policies and procedures related to faculty apportionment, research expectations, course size to course load apportionment, promotion and tenure, and professorship application and renewal
  • Ensure the college bylaws, policies and procedures align with university bylaws, policies and procedures
  • Serve as chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee
  • Serve as chair of the Research and Awards Committee
  • Serve as the college representative to the University Research Committee
  • Working with faculty and staff, organize and oversee the implementation of professional development programs for faculty that seek to improve the quality of research, teaching and service in the college
  • Develop mechanisms to recognize teaching, research and service accomplishments of the faculty and identify faculty for training and leadership opportunities
  • In coordination with the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, determine all faculty teaching assignments
  • Annually evaluate all college faculty including assistant, associate and full professors and professors of practice, lecturers and lecturer/ts
  • Serve as the administration’s liaison with the promotion and tenure committee ensuring the consistent application of procedures across faculty
  • Provide support and guidance to faculty in the development of annual review, mid-term review and promotional materials
  • Serve on appropriate university committees
  • Other duties as assigned by the dean

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. or equivalent with at least 5 years full-time experience in journalism and mass communications education; a successful record of teaching, scholarship and extramural funding; experience evaluating teaching and research activities and academic credentials that qualify for the rank of Associate Professor or higher with tenure.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include experience as a department chair or equivalent administrative experience and broad experience and knowledge of journalism and mass communications education; demonstrated interest in developing faculty as evidence by mentoring or leadership and familiarity with programs to develop diversity and inclusive excellence
