Marron publishes second book "Misogyny across Global Media"

"Misogyny across Global Media," Maria Marron’s second book in the Communicating Gender Series, has just been published by Lexington Books, a division of Rowman & Littlefield. Marron, a professor of journalism in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, edited chapters from scholars worldwide and co-wrote a chapter on representations of misogyny in the Irish and English press.

UNL students aim to teach people how to have productive, civil conversations

This year the UNL Bateman Team created a campaign called The Civility Effect to teach others how to have productive conversations about important topics. The team has been planning since October and had their first event at the UNL city union. Summer Financial Aid

Summer Financial Aid Information for students

Students must complete the Summer Financial Aid Application in MyRed (opening in Mid-March) in order to be awarded summer aid. The Summer Financial Aid Application can be completed on MyRed under the Financial Aid tab. Students must enroll in their summer courses first. Summer registration will open March 1st. Once students are enrolled in their summer courses, the Summer Aid Application will become available.

Jacht Agency celebrates diversity and inclusion through Anchor Week activities

In November 2020, the Jacht Agency launched Anchor Week, an annual week-long celebration of diversity and inclusion. 
“Diversity and inclusion have always been strong pillars of Jacht," said Jemalyn Griffin, Jacht director and assistant professor of practice. “This week gives students the opportunity to recognize and learn more about diversity and inclusion and recognize those values among their peers.”

Bailey Lauerman establishes diversity and creativity scholarship

Bailey Lauerman, an integrated marketing, design, public relations, social, digital, and production agency in Nebraska, is funding a new scholarship for students in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. The Bailey Lauerman Fund for Student Opportunity was created to support students who advance diversity and cultivate a rich campus environment at the University of Nebraska.

Peer mentor program helps new students adjust and student mentors grow

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications piloted the peer mentor program in Fall 2019, and fully implemented the program this Fall 2020 semester. Students are assigned a mentor in JOMC 100: The First Year Experience, a required course for all first semester students in the college. Assistant Director of Advising Andrea Gaghagen was excited to see such a positive response from participating students at the end of the Fall semester.

The College of Journalism and Mass Communication’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee invited Briana Aldridge, a recent grad of our Masters’ program, to headline our Multicultural Homecoming Event. Aldridge shared her thesis The challenges Black women face breaking into the sports broadcasting industry over Zoom on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
