Sports media and communication students and faculty to travel to Spain this summer

After a few years on hiatus due to the pandemic, students in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications will travel to Spain this summer to learn more about global sports, media and entertainment. For nearly three weeks CoJMC students will travel throughout Spain in participation of a 3-credit class led by sports media and communication associate professor, John Shrader. Shrader is familiar with the trip as he has previously taken students to Spain for similar study abroad trips.

Journalism course challenges students to look at accuracy and bias in media outlets

In 2020, professor of broadcasting and journalism Barney McCoy proposed a new discussion based pop-up class centered around the differences between misinformation, disinformation and malformation. After a successful run as a pop-up class, the College of Journalism and Mass Communications Dean Shari Veil and associate dean for academic programs Adam Wagler asked McCoy to convert the class into a full three credit course.

Honors course examines the connection between race and sports throughout history

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s honors college wants their students to have the chance to take a course in racial reckoning. College of Journalism and Mass Communications associate professor and sports media and communication coordinator John Shrader designed “Racial Reckoning and Sports Culture” to look at how race has been intertwined with the world of sports throughout history.
