Jones wins seat on Executive Committee of Advertising Division for AEJMC

Valerie Jones, an assistant professor at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, was selected to be part of the Executive Committee of the Advertising Division for the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Valerie Jones was selected as a 2017 Kopenhaver Center Fellow by the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication. As part of the fellowship, she attended the Women Faculty Moving Forward Workshop in Chicago Aug. 8.

Hassler receives top award in GIFT competition

University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism & Mass Communications associate professor of practice Michelle Hassler recently received the top award in the 2017 AEJMC Great Ideas for Teachers (GIFT) competition. Hassler participated as one of 25 finalists in the competition, which was held on Aug. 9 in Chicago.

CoJMC wins six Nebraska Broadcasting Association awards

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications won six gold awards at the Nebraska Broadcasters Association 83rd Annual Convention Wednesday, Aug. 16 in Omaha.

Weber teaches at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics

When Joseph Weber first planned a brief summer course for undergraduates at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, he and the organizers expected a couple dozen to enroll. He wound up with 44 students, including one auditor.

CoJMC graduate uses alumni channels to network and secure job

Upon graduation, students face the daunting task of finding a job that will kick-start their careers. The process of finding and applying for positions across the country can be overwhelming for new applicants. But connecting with fellow Husker alumni can make the process easier and less painful for new graduates.

Fuller recognized by Adweek

Stacy Fuller, a College of Journalism and Mass Communications alum, has been included in Adweek’s annual list of Powerful Women in Sports. The list is comprised of 35 executives and influencers who are winning over the next generation of fans and starting strong partnerships with brands.

Scholarship honors Nebraska alumnus and legendary sports communicator Fox Bryant

“The sports information legend who practically invented the profession,” is how the Lincoln Journal Star described Nebraska journalism alumnus Don “Fox” Bryant in a 2014 article about his life.

Bryant, who enjoyed a long and notable career in communications and administration with Nebraska athletics, has now been honored with a named scholarship fund at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. 

CoJMC receives 18 Hearst Awards

Fifteen students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications won a total of 18 awards during the 2016-2017 Hearst Journalism Awards Competition.

“The college is enormously proud of our students’ accomplishments during this year’s Hearst Competition,” said Dean Maria Marron. “The Hearst Competition are the equivalent of the Pulitzers of collegiate journalism. Our students’ success is an immense achievement that speaks volumes about the talent and dedication of our students and about the faculty who coach and prepare them for the competition.”

CoJMC students publish work examining refugee resettlement

Nebraska Mosaic students have published an in-depth multimedia project about the role Lincoln has played in the resettling of refugees.  Students in the spring semester of the journalism capstone course produced the seven-part series – “Refuge on the Prairie.”
