Dean's Update: April 2024

We had packed house over the weekend as alums traveled across the country to celebrate the life and legacy of Professor George Tuck. Speakers included CoJMC alums Jennifer Gutierrez (‘90), Mike Theiler (‘76), Julia Dean (‘92), Joel Sartore (‘85) and George and Mary Lynn’s dear friend Sherri Johnson. Jennifer Brinkman, 1993 graduate, was elected Lancaster County Commissioner on Nov. 8.

Jennifer Brinkman won the 2016 County Commissioner–District 2 election with a campaign focused on economic development, expanding access to health and safety services in the county, and creating a task force to address aging roads and bridges.

Shelley Smith, ESPN analyst and UNL CoJMC alumnus, received the WISE Women of Inspiration and Sports Journalist of the Year awards.

Shelley Smith, current ESPN correspondent and a University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications alumnus, has been selected to receive the 2016 Women in Sports and Events (WISE) Women of Inspiration Award and the Sports Journalist of the Year by the Jim Murray Memorial Foundation.

Monica Lopez, a senior advertising and public relations, French and geography student, was awarded the Most Promising Multicultural Student award from the American Advertising Federation. Lopez, a first generation college student, comes from Hastings, Nebraska.
