UNL Documentary "Running Towards the Fire" Wins Grand Prize at Marina del Ray Film Festival

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln proudly announces that "Running Towards the Fire – A War Correspondent's Story" was awarded the Grand Prize for best TV documentary at the Marina del Ray Film Festival on June 27. Gilbert and Martha Hitchcock Professor of Journalism Barney McCoy directed the film.

Huskers earn honorable mention in Bateman Competition

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's College of Journalism and Mass Communications Bateman Case Study team has earned an honorable mention and a top-16 finish in the 2023 national competition. The Public Relations Student Society of America hosts the Bateman competition annually for public relations students, allowing them to implement a full public relations campaign using their classroom education and internship experiences.

McCoy wins best of competition in BEA Festival of Media Arts

Barney McCoy, Gilbert and Martha Hitchcock Professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications, was awarded the Best of Competition award by the Broadcast Education Association in the 2023 BEA Festival of Media Arts Faculty News Competition.

Vanderford receives inaugural Beermann Scholarship at NPA Convention

Jacob Vanderford has been awarded the first Linda Beermann Scholarship by the Nebraska Press Association. The scholarship was awarded at the NPA's annual convention on April 15, 2023. Vanderford, who is from Lincoln, Nebraska, is a junior sports media and communication and advertising and public relations double major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications.

McCoy receives grant from Humanities Nebraska

In partnership with Nebraska Public Media, Barney McCoy, the Gilbert and Martha Hitchcock Professor of Broadcasting in the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications, received a grant from Humanities Nebraska. The grant will support the production of “Running Towards the Fire,” a WWII documentary about University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate Barney Oldfield and Reuters News correspondent Robert Reuben.

Broadcasting legend Ron Hull passes away

Ron Hull, a leader of Nebraska Public Media and a public television trailblazer, has passed away. He was 92-years-old. For nearly 70 years, Hull made Nebraska Public Media his life’s work – beginning his career in 1955 just a year after Nebraska’s public television station was founded. In fact, at that time it was only the ninth station to sign on to the PBS system. From the beginning, Hull was a jack-of-all-trades, producing and directing an array of television programs with his sights set on creating programs that both informed and entertained.
