Nebraska wins the 2022 National Bateman Case Study Competition

Dean's Update: May 2022

I am excited to announce an incredible $755,000 gift from the Donald and Lorena Meier Foundation to help build a new three-set television studio and newsroom in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. The gift is part of a multi-million-dollar commitment that will also establish four new endowed scholarship funds and expand and permanently endow 14 existing scholarship funds across the University of Nebraska.

Longtime friend of many College of Journalism and Mass Communications faculty, staff, students and alumni, Patti Harney passed away on May 10, 2022. Patti had just turned 67 on Friday, April 22. To celebrate, CoJMC ‘77 alumnus Bob Cullinan and associate professor of broadcasting Rick Alloway invited the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s a cappella group, The Red Keys, to serenade Patti on the sidewalk leading to her home

Social media research workshop exceeds 240 registrants

The Public Insight Lab in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications hosted a free Zoom workshop “Tools and Training for Social Media Research” on May 6. Valerie Jones, director of the Public Insight Lab and CoJMC’s Seaton professor of journalism, and Lisa PytlikZillig, interim director of the UNL Social and Behavioral Sciences Research Consortium, were the workshop’s creators and moderators.

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications has recently selected its new cohort of peer mentors for the 2022-2023 school year. During the First Year Experience class, a required course for all first-semester students in the college, students are assigned to a peer mentor.

Press Box learning community first to travel since the start of the pandemic

On April 30, the College of Journalism and Mass Communications Learning Community the “Press Box” traveled to Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas. The six students, in addition to Press Box mentor Alex Neill and adviser Alex Fernando, toured the Negro League Baseball Museum, visited the College Basketball Experience and attended a Sporting KC Soccer game.

Obituary | Marian Andersen

Marian Andersen was a woman who humbly accomplished many “firsts” throughout her lifetime. As a member, and often a leader, of numerous national organizations her influence reached far. She was also a philanthropic champion for the University of Nebraska and many other Nebraskan communities.
