CoJMC secures Nebraska Research Initiative grant to establish SMART-Lab

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications is proud to announce that it has received a grant of $101,376 from the Nebraska Research Initiative to support establishing the Social and Traditional Media Analytics and Research Tools Lab (SMART-Lab). This new facility will be a cornerstone for social and traditional media research, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and providing invaluable resources for academic and industry partners.

Journalism students and faculty place at the BEA Festival of Media Arts Competition

Two College of Journalism and Mass Communications students and one faculty member took away prizes at the Broadcasting Education Association's Festival of Media Arts Competition. More than 80 colleges and universities from all over the U.S. and abroad entered the competition.

Huskers place first and eighth in Hearst audio competition

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is proud to announce that two of its students have earned recognition in the annual Hearst Journalism Awards Audio Competition. Hallie Gutzwiller, a senior broadcasting major from Elm Creek, Nebraska, won first place and a $3,000 prize. Holly Fischer, a senior triple majoring in broadcasting, political science and advertising and public relations from Beatrice, Nebraska, received a certificate of merit for placing eighth in the competition.

Brett W. Dettmer, 27 of Syracuse, passed away at the Memorial Hospital in Guymon, OK on December 5, 2022. He was born on July 24, 1995, at the Syracuse Community Memorial Hospital to Bill & Dawn (Clark) Dettmer.

Kirkpatrick named AEJMC Emerging Scholar

The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication has named a College of Journalism and Mass Communications faculty member as one of its 2023 Emerging Scholars. Ciera Kirkpatrick, an assistant professor of advertising and public relations, was awarded a $3,500 grant as part of an AEJMC program to recognize promising young scholars and encourage their professional growth.

Announcing spring 2023 speakers

We are excited to announce that three distinguished speakers will be visiting UNL in the coming months! From Feb. 27 to March 10, Jennifer Urich join CoJMC as the Worick Visiting Professor in Market Research and will be available to be a guest speaker in your classes. Jane Olson will be at UNL from March 21 to 24 as the 2023 CoJMC Alumni Master, Diane Brayton will be available on April 4 as the Hearst Visiting Professional in Journalism and Jenna Johnson will visit as the Seline Lecturer. Dates for her visit will be announced soon. This is a unique opportunity for faculty to enhance their classes with expert insights and perspectives from these thought leaders. Don't miss the chance to bring a new level of engagement and inspiration to your students by having one of these experts share their expertise in your classroom.

Spring 2023 Communication Design Workshop Schedule

Communication Design workshops are happening now through April and they're open to any CoJMC student. Get hands-on experience to help with learning software and equipment through a series of instructor-led workshops that take place in person at the scheduled date and time in the basement of Andersen Hall.
