25 degrees awarded at August commencement

Twenty-one College of Journalism and Mass Communications students received their Bachelor of Journalism degrees and four received their Master of Arts degrees during the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s graduate commencement on Aug. 17, 2024 at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Six students will lead UNL’s 2023 Bateman Competition Team

Students in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's College of Journalism and Mass Communications will take part in the 2023 Bateman Case Study Competition. The 2023 challenge is in support of News Literacy Project. Teams across the U.S. will develop and execute integrated communications campaigns to raise awareness around the importance of knowing how to separate fact from fiction and become more informed, engaged and empowered citizens.

UNL wins Student Best in Show at 2022 Paper Anvil Awards

University of Nebraska-Lincoln students won six Paper Anvil Awards from the Nebraska chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. The 2022 Bateman team won best of show in the student category, along with an award of excellence and the award for special achievement in public relations. Jacht, a full-service, student-led advertising agency won three awards of merit.

Linda R. Beermann of Lincoln, a pathbreaking television weather reporter and newscaster and community volunteer, died at home of natural causes on Nov. 25, 2022, after enjoying a Thanksgiving holiday with friends, family, a new kitten and FaceTiming with grandchildren. She was 76 years old.

We have so much to be thankful for in the CoJMC! Our Bateman Case Competition students received their first-place trophy at the International Public Relations Student Society of America Conference, Seaton Professor Valerie Jones won the university-wide research slam, we hosted the Flatwater Free Press Forum: Nebraska’s Prisons at a Crossroads, cut the ribbon on the Don and Lorena Meier Studio and launched the Only in Nebraska Campaign. And that was just last week!
