The end of the year provides a great opportunity to welcome our incredible alumni back to campus. In the last month we welcomed back MRM Global Creative Director Ronald Ng (’93) and New York Times Reporter Dionne Searcey (’93) to talk about their experience in global advertising and journalism. We also celebrated the opening of Joel Sartore’s (‘86) ‘Photo Ark’ exhibit at Morrill Hall and Vern Powers’ (’84) honor with the Jeff Vaske Service in Entrepreneurship Award.

We are excited to sponsor the upcoming E.N. Thompson Forum with Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Lynsey Addario. Celebrated for her humanitarian and human rights photography work, Addario's images in The New York Times, National Geographic and TIME magazine powerfully capture global conflicts and crises. Her talk, "Of Love & War: Stories of Tragedy & Resilience," will be at 7 p.m. on March 5 in the Lied Center for Performing Arts. Order your free tickets here.

Faculty, staff and students win December, January awards

Last December and this January, we celebrated numerous achievements of our students, faculty and staff at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. Assistant professor Kelli Boling was named the December Professor of the Month; Lance Vie, a senior broadcasting major from Nickerson, was awarded December Student of the Month; Seamus Doyle, a junior broadcasting major from Spring, Texas, was awarded January Student of the Month and assistant professor of practice Kristian Anderson, as well as technical director Jamie Wenz, were selected as the January Not Too Shabby award-winners.

Tobias starts company to help businesses navigate social media

Drake Keeler

Keeler to establish multicultural media club through Roper Lectureship

Drake Keeler will serve as the Lynn and Dana Roper Visiting Lecturer from January to May 2024. Keeler is a 2022 journalism graduate of the CoJMC and a content creator at Hurrdat Sports. As part of his lectureship, he will lead and advise the college's newest student involvement organization, the Multicultural Students in Media Club.

Obituary: Linda Shipley

Linda J. Shipley, of Lincoln, NE, passed away on January 23, 2024, at the age of 78. Linda was born to Robert and Kathryn Mahoney on July 8, 1945, in Lincoln, NE.

Obituary: Ramon De Vere “Ray” Hansen

Lifelong newspaper publisher and author, Ramon De Vere “Ray” Hansen, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Good Samaritan Center, Olathe, KS. He was 97. He was surrounded by family, loved ones and compassionate caregivers during the time of his passing.

Alana Ross

Ross grows, pays it forward through campus organizations

Feb 21 2024 - 10:00am

Alana Ross, a sports media communication and advertising/public relations double major from Houston, Texas, came to Nebraska nervous about what college would bring. However, those concerns faded after meeting with her OASIS peer mentor and diving head-first into opportunities like UCARE and RSOs head-first. Now she’s helping fellow Huskers find their home at Nebraska.
