Senior Connor Clark of Lake Bluff, Illinois will graduate from the CoJMC this May. This summer he'll start his first post-grad role as the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the Lincoln Saltdogs baseball team.

Creating a new syllabus wouldn’t typically be everyone’s idea of a perfect sendoff for your final semester in college. What began as an offhanded collection of fun activities became a semester-long challenge for CoJMC senior Katie Lockyear, CBA senior Sarah Leach and friends to end their time at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with intention and appreciation.

Part of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications’ Experience Lab, Nebraska Nightly offers students the real-world experience of producing a live broadcast every week. For Jay Quemado, a junior from El Paso, Texas, the program solidified his calling in TV broadcasting.

The end of the year provides a great opportunity to welcome our incredible alumni back to campus. In the last month we welcomed back MRM Global Creative Director Ronald Ng (’93) and New York Times Reporter Dionne Searcey (’93) to talk about their experience in global advertising and journalism. We also celebrated the opening of Joel Sartore’s (‘86) ‘Photo Ark’ exhibit at Morrill Hall and Vern Powers’ (’84) honor with the Jeff Vaske Service in Entrepreneurship Award.

Nebraska's Cory Armstrong, a professor of journalism, is studying the effectiveness of severe weather alerts and how individuals respond to them. The work has included hurricanes, thunderstorms, tornadoes, floods and — with grant support from UNMC — drought.

College of Journalism and Mass Communications ambassadors are helping to lead classes at The Bay High School as part of the school’s curriculum. Alex Fernando, CoJMC assistant director of recruiting, noted the significant development of The Bay and the college’s collaboration that started in 2022 as an after-school program and today is no longer just an extracurricular activity option, but an integral part of the students' education.
