The end of the year provides a great opportunity to welcome our incredible alumni back to campus. In the last month we welcomed back MRM Global Creative Director Ronald Ng (’93) and New York Times Reporter Dionne Searcey (’93) to talk about their experience in global advertising and journalism. We also celebrated the opening of Joel Sartore’s (‘86) ‘Photo Ark’ exhibit at Morrill Hall and Vern Powers’ (’84) honor with the Jeff Vaske Service in Entrepreneurship Award.

Megan Skelly and Sydni Rowen named to ‘Franco’s List’ for character, integrity

Freshmen Megan Skelly of Lakeville, Minn., and Sydni Rowen of Urbandale, Iowa, were recognized last month as outstanding agents of character and integrity. "Franco's List," named after University of Nebraska–Lincoln Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Juan Franco, recognizes University of Nebraska–Lincoln students who demonstrate the positive characteristics that are part of being a person of integrity.

2014 UNL NSAC team

University of Nebraska–Lincoln to compete at national advertising competition for sixth year

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications will compete for the national title in the National Student Advertising Competition for the sixth year in a row. The competition will be held at the American Advertising Federation national conference in Boca Raton, Fla., on May 29.

SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards

University of Nebraska–Lincoln wins SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards

The Society of Professional Journalists recognized the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with Mark of Excellence Awards during the Region 7 meeting in Overland Park, Kan., April 25. University of Nebraska–Lincoln finished first in four categories and was a finalist in six categories. First-place winners will move on to the national MOE competition.

J Days

CoJMC to honor students, alumni and leaders during J Days

The annual J Days celebration kicks off with Game Night on Wednesday, April 23, where students can participate in Game Night. Each student club will host a carnival-style game in Andersen Hall so that students can come together to have fun and relax. J Days is held each spring to honor and recognize the work and achievements of current students, alumni and industry leaders.

Sarah Jo Lambert

Sarah Jo Lambert honored at University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Ivy Day ceremonies

Sarah Jo Lambert of Lubbock, Texas, was inducted into the Innocents Society during the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s annual Ivy Day ceremonies on April 19. The Innocents Society inducts 13 new members each spring, with selection based on leadership, scholarship and service to the university and greater community.

Kaylee Everly

Kaylee Everly to compete in Hearst national championship

University of Nebraska-Lincoln journalism student Kaylee Everly of Fremont will participate in the Hearst Journalism Awards Program’s National Championships held June 2-6, 2014 in Washington, D.C. Everly is one of five college multimedia finalists whose work was selected from 151 entries submitted.

Ashley Rutland receives study abroad scholarship

Ben Preston and Phyllis Larsen receive top Student Impact Awards

A College of Journalism and Mass Communications student and faculty member received two of the top Student Impact Awards at a banquet April 10 in the Nebraska Union. Ben Preston took home the top Student Leadership Award and Phyllis Larsen, professor of practice, took home the Outstanding Advisor Award.

News 21 Fellows

Three CoJMC students will participate in News21 this summer

Robby Korth, Jacy Marmaduke and Morgan Spiehs will participate this summer in a national investigative reporting project on state gun control efforts and gun rights issues as part of the Carnegie-Knight News21 national multimedia reporting initiative.

Sue Bullard

Bullard teaches in India

Sue Burzynski Bullard, an associate professor of journalism, went to India in March to teach a series of journalism workshops. She was part of a seven-person team assembled by the Poynter Institute to conduct the workshops for Indian editors and journalism educators.
