Dean Maria Marron attended the Carnegie-Knight deans’ meeting in Cambridge, Mass., Feb. 6 - 7. Among the topics for discussion were Diversity, and the Future of Journalism in the Trump Era. The Knight Foundation is committed to enhancing diversity in newsrooms — and in classrooms— and highlighted the Ida B. Wells Society for investigative reporting. Nikole Hannah-Jones, reporter, The New York Times Magazine; founder of the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting, a training and mentorship organization aimed at increasing the number of investigative reporters of color, spoke about how diversity in newsrooms has not increased since the 1960s and how important it is for students and journalists of color to learn investigative techniques.
