Dean's Update: May 2024

The end of the year provides a great opportunity to welcome our incredible alumni back to campus. In the last month we welcomed back MRM Global Creative Director Ronald Ng (’93) and New York Times Reporter Dionne Searcey (’93) to talk about their experience in global advertising and journalism. We also celebrated the opening of Joel Sartore’s (‘86) ‘Photo Ark’ exhibit at Morrill Hall and Vern Powers’ (’84) honor with the Jeff Vaske Service in Entrepreneurship Award.

68 degrees awarded at December commencement

UNL's College of Journalism and Mass Communications celebrates the 63 students who graduated on Dec. 16, 2023, with a bachelor's degree in journalism, including Chancellor's Scholar Megan Buffington. Five master's degrees were also awarded at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Dec. 15, 2023.

Faculty, staff and students win November awards

Last November, we celebrated numerous achievements within the CoJMC community. David Swotek, a junior broadcasting and sports media and communication double major from Lincoln, was awarded November Student of the Month; Linda White, Deepe Family Endowed Chair in Depth Reporting, was named the November Professor of the Month; and assistant professor Jason Stamm, as well as, staff members Karez Hassan, Natalie Becerra and Tiffany Groteluschen were selected as the November Not Too Shabby award-winners.

Experience Lab announces 2024 student leadership

Fourteen Huskers have been selected as Matousek Scholars for UNL’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications spring 2024 Experience Lab. The experiential learning program allows students to gain hands-on experience from day one of their college journey. Matousek Scholars serve as the student leaders of Experience Lab and coordinate day-to-day operations under faculty guidance.

Holman launches Strategic Fund for Innovation

College of Journalism and Mass Communications alumna Margaret Holman ('73) recently established the CoJMC Strategic Innovation Fund. The fund will allow the college to quickly react to changes in the ever-evolving mass communications industry and adjust accordingly.

Fall 2023 Dean's List announced: CoJMC honors 306 students for exceptional academic success

Obituary: George Edward Tuck

Retired University of Nebraska professor George Tuck died December 14, 2023 as a result of Alzheimer’s at Country House Residence for memory care in Lincoln Nebraska. He was 81.
