Fox and Pedie Bryant

Scholarship honors Nebraska alumnus and legendary sports communicator Fox Bryant

“The sports information legend who practically invented the profession,” is how the Lincoln Journal Star described Nebraska journalism alumnus Don “Fox” Bryant in a 2014 article about his life.

Bryant, who enjoyed a long and notable career in communications and administration with Nebraska athletics, has now been honored with a named scholarship fund at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.

CoJMC receives 18 Hearst Awards

Fifteen students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications won a total of 18 awards during the 2016-2017 Hearst Journalism Awards Competition.

“The college is enormously proud of our students’ accomplishments during this year’s Hearst Competition,” said Dean Maria Marron. “The Hearst Competition are the equivalent of the Pulitzers of collegiate journalism. Our students’ success is an immense achievement that speaks volumes about the talent and dedication of our students and about the faculty who coach and prepare them for the competition.”

CoJMC students publish work examining refugee resettlement

Nebraska Mosaic students have published an in-depth multimedia project about the role Lincoln has played in the resettling of refugees.  Students in the spring semester of the journalism capstone course produced the seven-part series – “Refuge on the Prairie.”

Penrice, Mercer and Kessler win Mark of Excellence awards

Three students from the College of Journalism and Mass Communications have won 2016 Mark of Excellence awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. The awards honor the best in student journalism in six categories: newspapers, magazine, art/graphics, radio, television and online.

CoJMC students win Hearst National Championships

Three students from the College of Journalism and Mass Communications have won 2017 Hearst National Championships. The William Randolph Hearst Foundation’s Journalism Awards Program announced the winners June 1, during the final awards ceremony in San Francisco.

'Wounds of Whiteclay' wins Kennedy grand prize

Eleven students in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's College of Journalism and Mass Communications took home the grand prize at the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards ceremony May 23 in Washington, D.C.

It was the first time in the event's 49-year history that the top prize went to a college group. Other division winners included National Geographic, The New Yorker, HBO and Univision.

2017 Bateman team

University of Nebraska–Lincoln PRSSA Bateman team places third in national finals

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) won third place in the 2017 Bateman Case Study Competition in Chicago. The team received $1,500 and a plaque. This is the third year the CoJMC has had a Bateman team.
