Business & Technical Communications Journalism

Nora Heston Tarte is an instructor in the College of Communications, teaching the Media, Ethics & Society course. She graduated with her master’s in Professional Journalism from UNL in 2021 and has her bachelor’s in journalism from California State University, Sacramento.

During her studies, Nora took a vested interest in media ethics and the responsibility journalists have to their communities and the world as a whole. In a climate of social change, media ethics, in her opinion, is more important now than ever.

Growing up in California, Nora is based in Reno, Nev. She is the managing editor of San Joaquin Magazine as well as a freelance lifestyle writer contributing to publications including the San Francisco Chronicle, Bay Area News Group/San Jose Mercury, edible Reno Tahoe, Sacramento Magazine, Tahoe Quarterly, and more. Her niche is travel, food and wine writing.

When Nora isnt’ working, she’s spending time with family—she has a son and two dogs with her significant other—and traveling the world. Her hobbies include hiking, yoga, reading and writing, and if she’s not at home she’s probably in Lake Tahoe, just a quick jaunt from her hometown.
