Dean's Update: April 2022

Spring has sprung, and we have much to celebrate! I’m delighted to share the inspiring story of a Nebraska family that gifted farmlands to support the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. The proceeds from the $4.65 million sale of the farmlands established the Deepe Family Endowed Chairs in Depth Reporting. I’ve enjoyed working with our trailblazing alumna, Beverly Deepe Keever, to ensure the gift honors the legacy of her parents, Martin and Doris Deepe, and will support journalism education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for generations.

Students, programs and alumni selected for SPJ’s 2021 Mark of Excellence Awards

The 2021 Mark of Excellence award winners were announced at the Society of Professional Journalists Region 7 conference in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday, April 9. These awards recognize the best collegiate journalism in Kansas, Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska and the College of Journalism and Mass Communications is proud to announce the eight Husker first-place winners and eleven finalists.

Students and faculty honored at the 2022 Eric Sevareid Awards

Six University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications students and broadcasting professor Barney McCoy, took home awards from the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association Eric Sevareid Awards Competition on April 2, 2022 at the Midwest Journalism Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Regents tour the Experience Lab as part of campus visit
