Senior Connor Clark of Lake Bluff, Illinois will graduate from the CoJMC this May. This summer he'll start his first post-grad role as the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the Lincoln Saltdogs baseball team.

The 2023 MobileMe&You Conference, a journalism and technology conference about mobile media and digital technology best practices, was at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the National Center for Supercomputing Applications on Friday, Oct. 13. The event is co-sponsored by Nebraska’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications.

Kelly Ann Scott

Houston Chronicle names Kelly Ann Scott new executive editor

Kelly Ann Scott, a 1998 graduate from the CoJMC, was recently named the Houston Chronicle's next executive editor. Previously Scott oversaw Alabama's largest digital news site, AL.com and served as editor-in-chief and vice president of content at Alabama Media Group (part of Advance Local). Under her leadership AL.com won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize in local reporting and commentary, among other prestigious awards.

Jessica Walsh

Grant helps students edit, write in more inclusive ways

The demonstrated success from Center for Transformational Teaching grant winner Jessica Fargen Walsh shows that embedded videos in Canvas could be a helpful addition for instructors teaching Associated Press style or journalistic writing and editing to expand the perspectives of students. This could also help instructors keep up with the ever-changing nature of editing.

Bailey Lauerman, an industry-leading Nebraska-based advertising agency, has appointed Dr. Shari Veil to its Board of Directors. Shari R. Veil, MBA, Ph.D., is a professor and dean of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Ariana Joy Cobler

Cobler selected for New York Times talent-pipeline mentorship program

Ariana Joy Cobler, a CoJMC junior from Yokosuka, Japan, was recently named to the second New York Times Corps cohort. Cobler is one of 19 undergraduate students from across the country selected to participate in the talent-pipeline mentorship program.

Dean's Update: September 2023

A star-studded panel of CoJMC alums shared the stage to celebrate Nebraska journalism and raise money for Flatwater Free Press earlier this month. The panel, moderated by Flatwater Free Press Editor Matthew Hansen (‘03), featured CNN Chief National Affairs Correspondent Jeff Zeleny (‘96), New York Times Reporter Dionne Searcey (‘93) and CEO of the Online News Association LaSharah Bunting (‘00) who talked about their Nebraska roots and the future of journalism. Current CoJMC student Evelyn Mejia also took the stage to share her experience as a Rural Journalism Fellow with Flatwater.
