The end of the year provides a great opportunity to welcome our incredible alumni back to campus. In the last month we welcomed back MRM Global Creative Director Ronald Ng (’93) and New York Times Reporter Dionne Searcey (’93) to talk about their experience in global advertising and journalism. We also celebrated the opening of Joel Sartore’s (‘86) ‘Photo Ark’ exhibit at Morrill Hall and Vern Powers’ (’84) honor with the Jeff Vaske Service in Entrepreneurship Award.

I am delighted to announce that I will be getting a new title. Jane Tenhulzen Olson (’64) and her husband, Ron, have made a $2 million gift commitment to establish the Jane T. Olson Endowed Deanship in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. I am honored to be the inaugural recipient of the deanship and carry on Jane’s legacy to the next generation. Read more about Jane’s incredible life journey and the impact this gift will have on the future of our college.

Jane Olson traveled the globe with human rights and humanitarian organizations, always carrying a pen, reporter’s notebook and camera, something she attributes to her days as a journalism student at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

675 Nebraska high school journalists and teachers meet at UNL for annual convention

Some 675 students and teachers from 45 Nebraska high schools and a middle school attended the Nebraska High School Press Association fall convention Oct. 16 on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus to learn journalism and media skills from professionals, college educators and high school advisers.

Class Intercom collaborates with CoJMC for interactive social media workshop

Class Intercom, the leading provider of school social media management software, worked with Nebraska’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications for their fourth annual Content Generation Workshop. The student-focused event was held on Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CT at a combination of in-person locations and was accessible to virtual attendees at schools nationwide.
