Melanie Gentrup

Alum Melanie Gentrup works behind the scenes for Volleyball Day

Melanie Gentrup has been a Husker fan since birth. Now the Husker alum is an assistant live events producer with HuskerVision where she gets to showcase the teams she grew up loving. Her work was recently on display for a world-record-breaking 92,003 fans in Memorial Stadium (and hundreds of thousands watching from across the country and world) for Volleyball Day in Nebraska. She takes us behind the scenes.

Armstrong selected to participate in Big Ten leadership program, named Nebraska ALP-Mellon Fellow

The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor has announced its annual selection of faculty who will attend two Big Ten Academic Alliance leadership programs this year. Cory Armstrong, the Lawrence L. and Ruth E. Pike professor in journalism and associate dean for research and faculty affairs at the CoJMC, is one of the six faculty selected to participate in the Academic Leadership Program.

Adrian Whitsett chosen as a 2023 Multicultural Homecoming Distinguished Alum

The CoJMC will welcome Adrian Whitsett, a 2008 bachelor's of journalism and bachelor's of philosophy graduate, as one of UNL's Distinguished Alumni at the Multicultural Homecoming events Oct. 26 - Oct. 28. Multicultural Homecoming is hosted by the Chancellor's Commission on the Status of People of Color, the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center and the Nebraska Alumni Association.

Kirkpatrick welcomed as first guest on new Nebraska Extension podcast

Dr. Ciera Kirkpatrick, an assistant professor of advertising and public relations in the CoJMC, was the first guest on Nebraska Extension's new podcast, "The Good Life in Early Life." The series will highlight Nebraska's research on early care and youth education.

Jessica Kennedy-Matthews

Obituary: Jessica Kennedy-Matthews

Jessica passed away on August 28, 2023, in Dublin, Ireland, with her beloved husband, Scott, by her side. Jess and Scott were nearing the end of a wonderful road trip through Ireland when Jess suddenly fell ill and later died in a Dublin hospital.

Sports media and communications alum Abby Barmore wrote an her last article for the Nebraska News Service about the Husker volleyball program and Husker volleyball player Lindsay Krause before graduating in December 2021. A version of the article was published in Nebraska Today to promote Nebraska Volleyball Day.
