Ryan Yetts (’22) celebrates getting his degree at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Dec. 2022. The arena will host a combined graduate and undergraduate commencement ceremony Aug. 17.

25 degrees awarded at August commencement

Twenty-one College of Journalism and Mass Communications students received their Bachelor of Journalism degrees and four received their Master of Arts degrees during the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s graduate commencement on Aug. 17, 2024 at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

CoJMC students bring home six ADDY awards

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications had a strong presence at the 2018 ADDY Awards held on Saturday, Feb. 17. The CoJMC students brought home a total of six ADDYs (two Golds and four Silvers) in six different categories. Many students and faculty attended the event at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Omaha celebrating award-winning work from the industry and students.

CoJMC student wins fifth place in national competition

CoJMC student Chris Bowling won fifth place in the 2017-2018 Hearst Enterprise Reporting competition. Bowling, a senior studying journalism, competed against 122 entries from 70 journalism programs and received a $1,000 scholarship.

Karla Martinez, senior advertising and public relations major at the CoJMC, was recently accepted to the 2017 Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP). The program is sponsored by the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4As) and provides students with a full-time, paid internship.

On its face, covering agriculture seems like a narrow beat for a journalist, but a reporter for NET News and Harvest Public Media told students his work touches on economics, politics, science, health care, immigration and other areas far beyond farms across the Nebraska.

CoJMC professor receives 25th Parents' Recognition Award

Rick Alloway, broadcasting professor at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, was recently awarded his 25th Parents’ Recognition Award. Professor Donald Lee, from the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, also received his 25th award. They set a record for the number of times a University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty members has won that recognition.
