Rural Futures Institute offers scholarships to community innovators for mobile tech conference

The Rural Futures Institute (RFI) at the University of Nebraska is offering 10 $250 scholarships for rural Nebraska community innovators to attend the 2018 MobileMe&You national conference at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Oct. 26-27, 2018.

After nearly one year in darkness since Hurricane María and more than $100 billion in storm damages, electricity has still not returned to thousands of residents across Puerto Rico, where an estimated 5,000 people died from hurricane-related causes.

CoJMC professor presents documentary at Washington D.C.’s Metropolitan Club

On June 28, 2018, “Black Jack Pershing: Love and War” was screened at the Metropolitan Club in Washington, D.C. Producer/director and CoJMC broadcasting professor Barney McCoy attended the special event to discuss his film with members of the club.

CoJMC professor joins Task Force on Careers

Frauke Hachtmann, advertising and public relations professor at the CoJMC, was invited by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) president-elect David Perlmutter to serve a two-year term on a newly formed AEJMC Task Force on Careers.

CoJMC professor wins national awards for documentary

Black Jack Pershing: Love and War” has been honored with the Sigma Delta Chi Award for Excellence in Journalism from the Society of Professional Journalists. Producer/director Barney McCoy, broadcasting professor at the CoJMC, was honored with the award in Washington, D.C., on Friday, June 8.

A message from Dean Struthers

One of my recent tasks was to develop a document outlining strategic priorities for our college. It was a great opportunity to think about all the things I have heard the last four months. I’ve had one-on-one conversations with every member of our college staff and faculty since stepping into this role on January 20. I realized the required planning exercise provided an impetus to distill what I’ve heard up to now. So here’s a stake in the ground that we can all consider this summer. Please let me know if you feel what follows is an accurate description of at least some of our dreams for the college.

Calla Kessler was recently named Student Still Photographer of the Year by The White House News Photographers Association. The award is part of the WHNPA’s Eyes of History Contests, which showcases the best in visual journalism across still, video and multimedia.
