Dave Remund teaches public relations courses and serves as executive director of Buoy, one of four Experiential Labs at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). Through Buoy, undergraduate students learn how to manage agency operations while serving purpose-driven community clients. Dave also advises the Public Relations Student Society of America chapter and Bateman campaign team.
Dave has more than three decades of professional experience in strategic communications, including leadership roles within three Fortune 500 corporations. He also has extensive consulting expertise, both independently and as part of agency teams. Dave most recently led communications and marketing for Drake University before devoting 18 months to caregiving and a series of contract assignments, including talent acquisition for The Walt Disney Company.
Over the past decade, Dave has taught undergraduate courses and graduate seminars for Butler University, Drake University, University of Oregon, Florida State University and San Diego State University. He has also led or participated in educational exchanges to Asia, Europe and South America.
Dave is a member of the Public Relations Society of America’s prestigious College of Fellows (Fellow PRSA) and holds Accreditation in Public Relations (APR). He has served on the Commission on Public Relations, and on the editorial boards of Journal of Public Relations Research and Journal of Public Relations Education. Dave has served on the downtown board for the Greater Des Moines (Iowa) Partnership and the State of Oregon Attorney General’s Task Force on Sexual Assault, among many other committees and community service roles over the years.
As a professor and mentor, Dave focuses on leadership development, ethical decision-making and social impact. While at the University of Oregon, Dave co-founded a living-learning community called Media and Social Action, which focuses on helping students learn how to lead change in this digital age. Dave wrote the book The ART of Responsible Communication: Leading with Values Every Day, published by Business Expert Press. His scholarly research has been published in Journal of Consumer Affairs, Journal of Faculty Development, Journal of Leadership Studies, Journal of Public Relations Education, Journal of Public Research, Public Relations Review, and Teaching Journalism and Mass Communication.
A first-generation college graduate, Dave earned his Ph.D. in from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his master’s degree and undergraduate degrees at Drake University.
