CoJMC at SXSW

Austin Skyline

Visit SXSW with CoJMC
Austin, Texas, March 8-17, 2019

Go for as little as 3 days or stay for the whole SXSW experience.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people head to South by Southwest to hear cutting edge talks from awesome speakers in journalism, advertising, video games, technology, music, film, and much, much more. Held in Austin, Texas, South by Southwest is a combination of festivals, speakers, conferences, concerts, film debuts, and brand activations. Last year featured keynote speakers like Elon Musk, Melinda Gates, Sadiq Khan, Bernie Sanders, and Rian Johnson.

This year is broken up into two conferences: SXSW Interactive and SXSW Gaming. Go to one, or both. SXSW Interactive (March 8 - 14) is a collection of many popular subconferences, including brands & marketing, news & journalism, design, tech and startups, sports, and more. SXSW: Gaming (March 13 - 17) is a conference and expo that occurs near the end of SXSW and includes esports, tournaments, game previews, awards, and panels.

You can build your own experience. This experience will be offered as a 1-credit hour pop-up, in which case you must commit to going for at least 3 consecutive days. As part of the trip, you'll work with Professor Hanus to attend sessions, network with professionals, and get a taste of the awesome food and events Austin has to offer during SXSW. Some sessions we'll attend as part of a group, some sessions you'll choose on your own.

It's important that you send your interest and commitment to mhanus2@unl.edu as soon as you can--the sooner you can book a hotel or get in the registration fee, the better.
