Dr. Maria B. Marron, Dean of University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications has been selected to serve as editor of Journalism and Mass Communication Educator. Marron will officially begin her second four-year term as editor of the quarterly journal on Oct. 1, 2015.
A publication of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, the Educator seeks to provide journalism and mass communications educators and administrators with the techniques and information to promote excellence in the classroom. The journal includes scholarly articles on journalism and mass communications pedagogy from AEJMC member professors and explore the current state of journalism and mass communication education today.
In her past term as editor, Marron worked diligently to improve the Educator’s content and standing among other AEJMC publications and to enhance the international contributions to the journal.
“I came into my position as editor with a huge learning curve between the new online manuscript system and the need to get contributions,” Marron said. “It was challenging at first. I believe one of my accomplishments as editor has been to encourage dialogue through the opinion- and research-based Essays about issues of importance to journalism and mass communications education.”
Learning curve aside, Marron has steered the Educator into a publication that includes in every edition several peer-reviewed articles, essays, and book reviews. She hopes to maintain the high quality and timely delivery of the journal in the future as well as to continue to enhance the international presence of the journal among journalism and mass communication educators. Another goal is to have the Educator placed on the Thomson Reuters Social Sciences Citation Index, which provides citation information for researchers.
"I believe Dr. Marron's continued dedication to this journal is a reflection of her passion for Journalism and Mass Communication education,” said Dr. Joseph Phelps, Reese Phifer professor, University of Alabama and member of AEJMC editorial board. “I know she is doing an excellent job in this capacity and we are extremely fortunate that Dr. Marron was willing to continue to serve as editor."
Marron hopes the journal will continue to be a valuable tool for journalism and mass communication educators.
