Why did you choose to come to Nebraska and specifically the College of Journalism? I chose to come to Nebraska because I've always wanted to be a husker. I didn't have a specific reason for going to the College of Journalism but now I wouldn't change it for anything!
Who at Nebraska has helped you be successful? Is there a professor who has made a big impact on your education? Professor Kelli Britten has had a HUGE impact on me and my time at Nebraska. It is impossible not to just smile when you're around her due to her contagious and bubbly personality. She really pushes her students to ensure they are ready to enter the industry after leaving her class.
What classes are you taking this year? Any you're most excited for? I am taking Design and Layout (ADPR 333), Social Media Theory and Practice (ADPR 466), Visual Communications 133 and 134, Psychology of Diversity (PSYC 330), and Human Sexuality and Sociology (PSYC 471). I am super excited to be taking Social Media Theory and Practice with Professor Griffin! I've had professor Griffin before and she is amazing! She's an expert in her field and I really value all of the lessons she has to teach.
Describe your current job/internship. Are there any other internships you've had throughout your time at CoJMC? I currently am the Inbound Specialist at Simple Strat here in the Haymarket in Lincoln. My internship as Inbound Specialists requires a lot of SEO research, web optimization, and backlink outreach. I have also worked as the Marketing Intern at Tredas and Agriculture Commodities company here in Lincoln. During my time there I managed Tredas' social media and planned a multitude of events there. In addition, I was also a Digital Strategy intern for the Heartland Shark Tank when it came to Lincoln last Spring! I had an incredible time and got to work with so many talented students!
Have you studied abroad—where, when, favorite city and memory? I have not studied abroad BUT I have gone to Haiti during my time at UNL. It was a beautiful and eye-opening experience. I stayed there with my aunt who has visited over 15+ times and worked at a hospital there called OSAPO as a radiologist. My favorite place to visit was the village right outside of OSAPO. The villagers there know no English, but will still welcome you into their hut for a meal or to hold their brand new baby.
Are there any organizations you're involved in on or off campus? Any other hobbies? I am an avid pitch player! I also work at Crooked Creek golf course here in Lincoln and LOVE to golf!
Throw out a fun (maybe quirky) fact about you. I've ridden in a helicopter over Mt. Rushmore before.
Are you working on any special projects? I'm working on coming up with my own podcast!
Do you have any post graduation plans? If not don't stress—what would you like to do? After graduation, I plan to work for an advertising agency. I don't know where yet...so if you're an ad agency and seeing this hit me up in May of 2020.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? I always wanted to be a teacher growing up!
What has been your favorite class at CoJMC? What about one outside of CoJMC? My favorite class at the CoJOMC so far was ADPR 221 with Jemalyn Griffin. I learned so much and got to develop my own portfolio over the course of the semester. Outside of the CoJOMC I really enjoyed (PSYC 447) the psychology of developmental aging. I found it so fascinating and really applicable to advertising as 65+ is the fastest-growing population.
Fill in the blank: "The best thing about being a Husker is ___________________." going to Husker Volleyball games!
Advice for a new CoJMC student? Don't be afraid to shine! Sit in the front of classes, raise your hand, talk to your teachers, ask
