Six students selected for the 2024 UNL Bateman Team

Monday, December 18, 2023 - 1:00pm

The UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications selected six students for the 2024 Bateman Case Study Competition team.

Bateman is a national competition for public relations students sponsored by the Public Relations Student Society of America. The competition allows students to apply their classroom education and internship experiences to create and implement a public relations campaign.

The best journalism, media and communications collegiate programs nationwide participate in Bateman. 2024 marks the tenth year CoJMC will enter the competition. Campaigns planned and implemented by CoJMC students have earned top-3, top-16 and top-20 national finishes.

In 2022, CoJMC won first place in the competition for their campaign "1 for 1." The campaign raised awareness of lymphoma and the challenges adolescents and young adults can face when diagnosed with lymphoma. Other Bateman campaigns have addressed social issues related to civility, mental health, student veterans and news literacy. In 2023, CoJMC earned national honorable mention in the competition.

The 2024 Competition will focus on Culturs and task students with creating awareness of the magazine on college campuses and its mission to enhance community and foster human connection of culturally fluid communities of multiethnic, multicultural, mixed race and geographically mobile people, which includes immigrants, refugees and Third Culture Kids.

“Congratulations to our outstanding students for their selection to the 2024 Bateman Team,” Shari Veil, dean of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications said. “We’re excited to see them excel in creating awareness for Culturs magazine and continue our tradition of success in this prestigious competition.”
