Finding a job post-graduation can be a difficult endeavor for any graduate, but the Class of 2020 faces more challenges because of the global pandemic. This obstacle didn’t discourage many of our CoJMC graduates.

Allie Snow studied broadcasting and sports media and communication while attending UNL. At the beginning of April, she began applying for jobs and working on her newsreel.

Snow applied to 40 jobs between April and May, she also emailed news and sports directors but was having no luck because many stations had a hiring freeze in place.

She got in contact with someone at Channel 8 and ended up getting hired as a full-time news reporter.

“What I’ve learned especially in a time like this during the pandemic, is that it’s really important to keep your contacts and be aggressive about what you want,” Snow said.

Her advice for fellow CoJMC graduates is to take things slow and patient because it’s normal to not find a job immediately after you graduate. One of Snow’s suggestions is to use LinkedIn to reach out to alums of the college and keep creating work that’s related to the field you’re in.
