Research highlights TikTok as tool in opioid harm reduction

Led by Kelli Boling, assistant professor of advertising at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, a group of researchers from the College of Journalism and Mass Communications and the Center for Rural Drug Addiction recently published a study examining the role of TikTok creators in promoting naloxone.

Waite receives J. Winton Lemen Fellowship Award

College of Journalism and Mass Communications professor Matt Waite has been awarded the J. Winton Lemen Fellowship Award. Waite, founder of the Drone Journalism Lab at the CoJMC, teaches reporting and digital product development classes. He has conducted numerous workshops to teach journalists about drone certification and safety, including workshops at universities nationwide through the Poynter Institute.

University of Nebraska–Lincoln depth report recognized among best global public health stories of 2017

A depth report by 11 University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications students was named among the best global public health stories of 2017 by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Johns Hopkins editors ranked the student report No. 2 behind one by The New York Times – but ahead of health stories published in The Atlantic, National Geographic, The Guardian and Reuters.

University of Nebraska–Lincoln journalism student takes first in national contest

Marcella Mercer, a senior journalism major at  the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications, has taken first place in the feature writing category of the 2017-2018 Hearst Journalism Awards Competition for her story, “Fathers and Sons.” Hearst judges selected Mercer’s story No. 1 from among 154 entries submitted by 82 journalism programs.

CoJMC student traveling abroad

Study abroad this spring in Ireland with the CoJMC!

Students can get hands-on experience as they travel to Ireland this spring under the direction of professor Amy Struthers and CoJMC Dean Maria Marron, a native of Ireland. The class, JOMC/ADPR 491/891: Ireland: Culture and Media, will begin Sunday, May 13, 2018, and end Monday, May 28, 2018.
