Two current College of Journalism and Mass Communications Majors, Tyler Hurst and Broderick (Brody) Wilken, and one alum, Avery Jelinek, won the 2023 American Association of Professional Baseball Social Media Team of the Year for their work with the Lincoln Salt Dogs. Hurst and Wilken won while serving as interns with the Lincoln Salt Dogs.

Hurst is a junior sports media and communications and advertising and public relations double major from Glenview, Illinois. Wilken is a junior sports media and communication and broadcasting double major from Tea, South Dakota. Avery Jelinek, graphic designer and photographer at NEBCO, Inc. in Lincoln, graduated from UNL in 2019 with a bachelor's of journalism, majoring in advertising and public relations. "I can't begin to describe how lucky we were to have the team we had this year," said Michael Dixon, Salt Dogs director of media relations. "The work that Tyler (Hurst), Brody (Wilken) and Avery (Jelinek) did was the best I've ever seen in this league and I can't wait to see what they come up with for an encore."

The American Association of Professional Baseball is a 12-team league spanning from Winnipeg, Canada, to Cleburne, Texas. Learn more about the American Association on their website.
