Hallie Gutzwiller, a senior broadcasting major from Elm Creek, won a prestigious Society of Professional Journalists National Mark of Excellence Award. Her exceptional work titled "Wildfires burn across Nebraska," which aired on 90.3 KRNU, secured her victory in the highly competitive Radio News Reporting Category.

To reach this national stage, Gutzwiller first earned recognition by securing the top spot in the Region 7 Mark of Excellence Awards competition in April. The Mark of Excellence Awards serve as a platform to celebrate and honor the very best in student journalism. Judges for the competition were instructed to select only the entries that demonstrated outstanding work worthy of national recognition.

"We are incredibly proud of Hallie and her recognition in the SPJ Mark of Excellence Competition," said Shari Veil, dean of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. "This award highlights our students' outstanding work and dedication to pursuing excellence in journalism."
