Junior advertising and public relations and broadcasting major Celia "CC" Cunnion of Douglas, Michigan was honored for her commitment to the University by the Nebraska Alumni Association with the Howard and Judy Vann Student Leadership Award.

Cunnion is involved with activities on campus like the Daily Nebraskan, COJMC Ambassadors and the Circle. She also works for the Digital Learning Center and was previously a tutor for Husker Athletics.

The Howard and Judy Vann Student Leadership Award was established in 1999. It recognizes an undergraduate student leader who has shown exceptional leadership capabilities through energetic participation in student activities, commendable classroom performance and the personal integrity, perseverance and sense of humor demonstrated by those who successfully lead their peers.

The recipient must have junior standing or higher and have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 to be eligible for consideration. Nominations for this award are made by current students, faculty, staff or alumni.

Cunnion was nominated by junior management major Megan Smith.

"I am so glad CC was finally able to get some recognition for the chaos she calls life because I know it gets stressful, but she loves every minute of it,” Smith said. "CC is so involved, dedicated and really values her education, I'm in awe of how she's able to balance everything she does."

Cunnion was honored at the Student Alumni Association’s Cornhusker Experience Gala on April 14 at the AKRS Champions Club.

“I am honored to be recognized by the Nebraska Alumni Association for being a leader on campus,” Cunnion said. “I am so grateful for the faculty and staff on campus that have encouraged me to step into leadership roles and I couldn't have done it without their support.”
