Obituary: JL (John) Schmidt

JL (John) Schmidt, 77, was born December 20, 1946, in Scottsbluff, Nebr., and passed to eternity April 21, 2024. A Scottsbluff native and 1976 University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism graduate, Schmidt began his newspaper career at The Daily Nebraskan in 1966. He worked as a reporter, copy editor, business manager and night news editor.

Why is registering during Priority Registration important?

Registering during priority registration helps you get the best schedule possible. It also helps departments understand how many students need certain courses. If you do not enroll in classes during priority registration, you could impact our decisions on cutting courses due to low enrollment which impacts you and your peers.

Fall 2021 graduate assistantships

The  College of Journalism and Mass Communications has 12 graduate assistants this fall. Graduate assistantships in the CoJMC are offered to promising scholars with an interest in gaining teaching, research or industry experience in their field. Graduate assistants serve as teaching or research assistants to accomplished faculty, teach in the college’s innovative Design Communication Program or work in strategic communications for an industry partner.

Rivas will speak about her experience as a first-generation student and now professional journalist.
