Obituary: JL (John) Schmidt

JL (John) Schmidt, 77, was born December 20, 1946, in Scottsbluff, Nebr., and passed to eternity April 21, 2024. A Scottsbluff native and 1976 University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism graduate, Schmidt began his newspaper career at The Daily Nebraskan in 1966. He worked as a reporter, copy editor, business manager and night news editor.

Broadcasting class produces short-form pilot episodes

Students in the BRDC 491 special topics course Short-form TV Series Writing and Producing created television pilot episodes for their final project. They had a screening of the episodes during their last Wednesday night course of the semester with College of Journalism and Mass Communications adjunct professor Michael Svoboda.

Classes partner to launch environmental podcast depth report

Two classes in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications teamed up during the fall of 2021 to launch an environmental podcast series. Journalism 491 Environmental Depth Reporting and Broadcasting 491 Environmental Depth Reporting media production brought together students interested in writing and producing multimedia stories to work on the semester-long project with Bill Kelly, senior producer at Nebraska Public Media.
