So, you want to create a show or segment for KRNU, KRNU-2 (including the CoJMC Transistor Podcast Platform), Nebraska News Service or Unlimited Sports? That’s GREAT! We have all of the equipment, hosting and distribution platforms you need.
As you know, these brands are controlled by CoJMC and represent our college, so you have to go through the appropriate channels and work with faculty supervision for approval and publication. The following information will help you get started and give you the resources you need to pitch your show to the appropriate faculty member(s).
Step 1 - The Concept
You’ll need a concept for your show/segment. A concept is more than an idea – it identifies a need, an audience and tells us what your idea is. Typically, this includes some research to make sure you aren’t pitching something we already have, or the audience doesn’t want.
- What is the problem? (what is missing or needed?)
- What is your solution to this problem?
- Who is the target audience for this solution? (This should include demographic information and psychographic information)
- What is this solution appropriate for that audience?
Production information/Details
Before you pitch, you will also need to think through the details and your team. When you make a show/segment outside of a class structure you don’t have a built-in team, timeline, grading structure or faculty supervision so you will need to outline that.
Production information/Details
Team
- Talent - Who is going to host it?
- Research/Booking - Who will research, write scripts/outlines, gather audio or video clips, book guests (if applicable)
- Production – Who is shooting, recording, editing, making graphics etc.
- Submission - Who is responsible for the show being produced on-time and turned in?
Details
- How often will it air?
- How long will it be?
- Which outlet/platform is this for? (see "Platforms” at the end of this document if you aren’t sure)
- Which faculty member(s) is the most likely to supervise this project? (see "Platforms” at the end of this document if you aren’t sure)
The Pitch
Now that you’ve thought about your show, you are ready to submit your pitch!
You will receive feedback via email within 2 weeks of your submission.

Approval Process
If “Approved"
Great job! Your show has been approved!
Pitch emails will include information about training, scheduling production and a link to complete your contract.
If “Returned with proposed changes”
Pitch emails will include feedback about changes that need to be made or questions that need to be answered before your pitch is approved. Most often these are clarification questions.
If “Rejected”
Pitch emails will include the reasons your pitch was not accepted. Pitches are most often rejected because:
The concept is unclear or not needed
The idea is a duplication of something we are already doing
It doesn’t have enough detail to understand it
It doesn’t have the resources (usually people) outlined to make it work logistically
