Obituary: JL (John) Schmidt

JL (John) Schmidt, 77, was born December 20, 1946, in Scottsbluff, Nebr., and passed to eternity April 21, 2024. A Scottsbluff native and 1976 University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism graduate, Schmidt began his newspaper career at The Daily Nebraskan in 1966. He worked as a reporter, copy editor, business manager and night news editor.

CoJMC student plans lunch n' learn for the graduate program

Even with a quarantine during a global pandemic, CoJMC graduate student Natalie Drozd found a way to host a webinar with Lincoln-based advertising company Kidglov. She's is confident that even though the event was virtual, it still had the same effect and maybe was even a little more impactful because people felt comfortable speaking up.

Three CoJMC standouts cover COVID-19 for The New York Times

A student, faculty member and alum from CoJMC are working together on a project covering the COVID-19 crisis for The New York Times. These data journalists are gathering deaths related to the coronavirus from every county in the U.S. The hope for this data is that it becomes a public good to inform policy makers and researchers to help them understand what happened, what is happening and what they can do to help make sure this doesn't happen again.
