Huskers place third in the National Student Advertising Competition

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's team placed third at the District 9 American Advertising Federation’s National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) held in Kansas City on April 19. The regional competitors come from colleges and universities in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. Seven schools competed at this year’s competition.

The strategic planning vision, mission and values task force welcomes feedback on the current statement draft. Please email Dean Veil directly with comments and suggestions. All task forces will post their revised distinctive capabilities, measures and strategies to the strategic planning website on December 1. Alumni are encouraged to provide feedback on all areas of the plan.

Firespring helps make student campaigns, senior capstones a success

The advertising and public relations Fall 2020 campaigns courses collaborated with account strategists at Firespring to complete senior capstones. It was the first time faculty members Valerie Jones and Adam Wagler had their students work with Lincoln based creatives to help complete company projects.

Two senior students earn their spot on Homecoming royalty

Jared Long, a journalism and political science double major, and Mitch Fisher, an advertising and public relations major were named 2020 Homecoming candidates. Both seniors encompass CoJMC's "do from day one" mentality that has helped them stand out since their journey first began at Andersen Hall.

UNL's Public Relations Student Society of America Club wins eight Paper Anvil Awards

The chapter was genuinely honored to have received eight awards from Public Relations Society of America as a culmination of the hard work the membership accomplished in 2020. Faculty advisor Jemalyn Griffin reflected on their continued growth as a club that builds inclusive, determined leaders in the public relations field.

Peer mentor program helps new students adjust and student mentors grow

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications piloted the peer mentor program in Fall 2019, and fully implemented the program this Fall 2020 semester. Students are assigned a mentor in JOMC 100: The First Year Experience, a required course for all first semester students in the college. Assistant Director of Advising Andrea Gaghagen was excited to see such a positive response from participating students at the end of the Fall semester.

Angel Jennings has been named assistant managing editor for culture and talent at The Los Angeles Times, Hub Brown has been named dean of the College of Journalism and Communication at the University of Florida, and Paige Dimakos has been named CEO of The Draft Network.
