The CoJMC Virtual Big Red Reunions are back by popular demand. We’re not quite ready to throw away our masks and hug everyone, but we are getting closer. Until then, let’s take advantage of the technology we all learned to use during the pandemic and connect to old classmates near and far. Bring the beverage of your choice to your computer screen to swap old stories and new career and life updates.

Ever wonder what happened to that kid who sat behind you in Intro to Advertising? Maybe you’ll see him at the CoJMC Virtual Big Red Reunion! Lost touch with your study partner from Mass Media Law after graduation? Maybe you’ll see her at the CoJMC Virtual Big Red Reunion! Need an excuse to bring old college buddies together? Tell them to RSVP for the CoJMC Virtual Big Red Reunion

We will work our way through the decades throughout the spring. Watch your email for the invite or indicate your interest on our Facebook page. See old college friends and make new ones without leaving your home!

We’ll stick to virtual and hybrid events, including the upcoming Seline Lecture Series, this spring. However, this summer we want you to get out your old concert t-shirts, perfect your husky radio voice and join us for a massive party to celebrate the 50th anniversary of 90.3 KRNU. The pandemic made us wait two years to celebrate in person, but the wait is almost over. On June 11, at 7 p.m., at the Bourbon Theater on O Street we will celebrate the legacy of our beloved campus radio station. Join us to catch up with past classmates and KRNU staff, hear music from your time as a college DJ, celebrate this incredible milestone and help us support the future of college radio. We’ll also get a sneak peek at the video produced for the one and only Rick Alloway for his induction into the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.

Professors John Bender and Bruce Thorson will be joining the ranks of our emeritus faculty at the end of the year. Please check out the stories on their long and productive careers.

We are at the height of awards season in our industries. I’m proud to announce that Huskers took home first place and fifteenth place in the national Hearst Journalism Awards Audio Competition and were named finalists in seven different categories in the National Broadcasting Society’s National Student Electronic Media Competition. Our students also took home eight silvers, two golds and best of show at the American Advertising Awards (Addy’s) last month, and just last weekend, the winners of the Perry Photojournalism Challenge included Hailey Harr, Aeriel Frey and Lauren Pennington. Several of our students are up for Eric Sevareid Awards next month from the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association. I’ll report back details in April after the conference.

Last, but not least, thank you to everyone who gave to Glow Big Red last month. We raised over $12,000 in just 24 hours. Our students could not win these incredible awards or engage in experiences like the Experience Lab, KRNU, Jacht, and study abroad without your continued support. Your gifts of time and treasure are always welcome. Please consider a gift to student experiences today.

Go Big Red!
