Obituary: JL (John) Schmidt

JL (John) Schmidt, 77, was born December 20, 1946, in Scottsbluff, Nebr., and passed to eternity April 21, 2024. A Scottsbluff native and 1976 University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism graduate, Schmidt began his newspaper career at The Daily Nebraskan in 1966. He worked as a reporter, copy editor, business manager and night news editor.

CoJMC launches media analytics lab

CoJMC professor Valerie Jones is launching the CoJMC’s first-ever Media Analytics Lab. The goal of the lab is to allow students to apply classroom knowledge and provide insights to clients based on the data they find. The lab is an extension of her online Digital Insight and Analytics class, which she developed in 2011 and has been teaching ever since.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter reached its professional development goals and was named a Star Chapter. UNL PRSSA members have been recognized as a Star Chapter in 2014, 2016 and now once again for projects and programming completed in 2017.

CoJMC students’ PR campaign named a top-four finalist in the National Organ Donor Awareness Competition

A team of eight CoJMC students recently made the final four in the National Organ Donor Awareness Competition (NODAC), sponsored by the Anthony J. Fulginiti (AJF) Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Chapter at Rowan University. Last spring was the first time a CoJMC team participated in the competition.

Five CoJMC students bring home gold at Nebraska Broadcaster’s Assocation convention

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications brought home five of 12 student gold awards during the Pinnacle Awards Banquet at the conclusion of the annual Nebraska Broadcasters Association convention. The event, sponsored by Pinnacle Banks of Nebraska and Nebraska Public Power District, took place on Wednesday, Aug. 15 at Embassy Suites in Lincoln.
