Bateman Case Study Competition team implements campaign on mental health

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications’ ADPR 339/439 Student Competitions course continued its launch of its “Redirect the Conversation” campaign with an event on the Union Green Space on Thursday, March 9. The campaign, which focuses on destigmatizing how people talk about and view mental health, is part of the annual Bateman Case Study Competition (BCSC). The BCSC is a national case study opportunity in which students apply what they’ve learned in the classroom and from internships to create a public relations campaign.

Mark Truss to be spring 2017 Dick Worick visiting lecturer in market research

Mark Truss, worldwide director of brand intelligence for the J. Walter Thompson Company, New York City, will be the spring 2017 Dick Worick visiting lecturer in market research. Truss will visit the College of Journalism and Mass Communications on March 14 and March 15. He will give two free public lectures and work with advertising and public relations capstone students to improve their research skills.

Gettino family creates scholarship for aspiring communicators at University of Nebraska–Lincoln

Students pursuing a career in the advertising or public relations field at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will be aided by a new scholarship established by Michael Gettino and his daughter, Sarah Gettino Owens, who are both alumni of the university.

Kessler receives CPOY award of excellence

Calla Kessler, a junior journalism student, was one of four students to receive an award of excellence in the sports feature competition from the 71st College Photographer of the Year competition. Kessler submitted her photo “Untitled,” of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s women’s gymnastics team.

ADDY awards

CoJMC at the 2017 ADDY awards

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications had a strong showing of its students’ abilities at the 2017 ADDY Awards on Saturday, Feb. 18. The CoJMC students won seven ADDYs (4 Golds and 3 Silvers) in seven different categories. In addition, Jacht, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln CoJMC student-run advertising agency, also won a silver.

Bowling places first, Rausch finishes sixth in Hearst competition

Jordon to be honored by Omaha Press Club

Steve Jordon, a 1968 University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications alumnus, will be honored March 18 as the Omaha Press Club’s next Face on the Barroom Floor. Jordon has worked as an Omaha World-Herald reporter for 50 years and covers Warren Buffett for the newspaper.

13 CoJMC faculty and staff honored by University of Nebraska–Lincoln Parents Association

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Parents Association honored 13 faculty and staff from the College of Journalism and Mass Communications for their contribution to students. Each honoree received the Certificate of Recognition for Contributions to Students presented at an annual recognition ceremony on Friday, Feb. 3. The ceremony was organized by the Division of Student Affairs and co-sponsored by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Teaching Council and University of Nebraska–Lincoln Parents Association.
