Obituary: JL (John) Schmidt

JL (John) Schmidt, 77, was born December 20, 1946, in Scottsbluff, Nebr., and passed to eternity April 21, 2024. A Scottsbluff native and 1976 University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism graduate, Schmidt began his newspaper career at The Daily Nebraskan in 1966. He worked as a reporter, copy editor, business manager and night news editor.

Nebraska's Bateman team named finalist for second consecutive year

For the second consecutive year, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's College of Journalism and Mass Communications (CoJMC) Bateman Team has been named a finalist in the Public Relations Student Society of America’s Bateman Case Study Competition. This is the third time in the last six years that the team has had a top three finish in the national competition.

Public Insight Lab to host a Zoom workshop on social media research on May 6

The Public Insight Lab in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications will host a free Zoom workshop on May 6, with support from the UNL Social & Behavioral Sciences Research Consortium and the Methodology and Evaluation Core Facility. The workshop, “Tools and Training for Social Media Research,” will showcase current projects using social media research at UNL, the University of Alabama, Clemson and Louisiana State University.
