Thank you to everyone who has joined in the CoJMC Virtual Big Red Reunion! I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting alumni of the “J-school,” as CoJMC is known to most graduates. Getting to know alumni through the decades of the '50s, '60s and '70s so far has been as entertaining as it has been educational. Oh, how things have changed!

I’ve heard incredible stories, from an alumna from the '50s who lost her job at a magazine for becoming pregnant with her first child, to an alumna from the '60s who shared a bloody mary breakfast with her professor after showing up to the newsroom hungover (the student, not the professor – I think), to an alumnus from the '70s who thought he had escaped the watchful eye of Al Book only to find his first big client had hired Professor Book as a consultant!

Our alumni have had impressive careers and live all over the country, but the relationships they built and memories they share will always bring them back to their Husker Homeland, even if it’s only by Zoom. I’m expecting a great turnout for tonight's '80s Virtual Big Red Reunion. If you graduated in the '80s, there’s still time to register!

So far, I’ve met six alumni from the '60s and '70s who are married to each other. I’d like to write a feature story on all the alumni who fell in love in CoJMC for our Valentine’s Day edition of the newsletter. If you met your significant other through activities, classes or classmates in the college, please email me your story.

Throughout the years, friends have come and gone from CoJMC. We are excited to announce that we are hiring five new faculty to support our growing programs. We are also saying goodbye and good luck to Greg Jensen who is retiring after 31 years with the University of Nebraska Foundation, including two terms as the liaison for CoJMC. Greg has been a mentor and friend during my first few months as dean, and I will always appreciate the patience he showed me, his dedication to the relationships he built with alumni and friends and the passion he has shown for advancing the mission of our college. Thank you, Greg!

With just a month to go in the fall semester, we have been busy at CoJMC. This newsletter features stories on Multicultural Homecoming Honoree and Alumna Briana Aldridge, Jacht’s Anchor Week, the climate change project, Global Virtual Classroom, our award-winning students, and perseverance in the pandemic. If you ever have questions or want to more about what is happening at the college, please let me know, I’d love to hear from you!

Go Big Red!
