Dean's Update November

Monday, November 23, 2020 - 8:30pm
Dear Alumni and Friends,

As of today, our condensed fall 2020 semester has officially come to a close. Our students, faculty and staff have put an incredible amount of time, effort and creativity into making this semester a success. I am proud of the interesting and thought-provoking work they have produced and the grit they have shown through adversity.

Our CoJMC Virtual Big Red Reunion is also coming to a close with just two happy hours left this year. If you graduated after 2005, you still have time to RSVP for your reunion. If you missed your happy hour but would like to connect with a fellow Husker, please let me know. I am happy to connect old friends who have lost touch over the years.

One initiative that will continue into 2021 is the CoJMC strategic planning process. Our task forces have found that defining who we are as a college is almost as challenging as deciding where we want to go next. Alumnus Lyle Denniston, who is serving on the research and creative activity task force, reflected earlier this month on our need to reclaim the prairie heritage.

Please take some time to review the most recent iteration of our vision, mission and values statements. We want our strategic plan to reflect the spirit of our past while pushing us forward to innovate and evolve with the industries we serve. All task forces will post their revised distinctive capabilities, measures and strategies to the strategic planning website on December 1. Alumni are encouraged to provide feedback on all areas of the plan.

So many of our conversations this year have focused on surviving 2020, but we have so much to be thankful for this year! This month’s newsletter is filled with stories of student and alumni accomplishments. I hope each and every one of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

Go Big Red!

Shari
