Students are back on campus and the fall semester is officially underway! This semester is a little different with an array of class formats and everyone in masks, but you can still feel the energy and excitement of starting a new year throughout Andersen Hall. I am proud of our dedicated faculty and staff who have put in an incredible amount of time and effort planning and preparing for this fall.
I am also proud to announce a new emergency support fund for students who face hardships when events in their lives don’t go as planned. Recognizing that students have more than tuition to worry about, the new student emergency relief fund will also allow students to apply for funds to help cover unexpected “life interruptions” like car repairs, laptop replacements, and medical bills. In this month's newsletter, we highlight the hard work of our students who brought home gold in seven of the eleven college categories at the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Pinnacle Awards, received the Star Chapter Awardfrom the Public Relations Student Society of America, and launched a dynamic website for the Climate Change Project. We also feature Professor Trina Creighton's leadership in discussing race and social justice, graduate student Betsy Totten's support of healthcare workers, and the incredible life and career of Professor Emeritus Bud Pagel who was recently awarded the Nebraska Alumni Association’s Doc Elliot Award. The semester has just begun, and we already have much to celebrate!
In the coming weeks, I’ll be reaching out to the alumni who indicated interest in joining the strategic planning committee. All alumni and friends of CoJMC can view the plan materials, reports and drafts and offer comments and feedback through this website. Please let me know if you are interested in serving on a planning task force. We would love to have more alumni engaged in this process!
