Faculty can engage students in their research through independent studies. This allows students to earn academic credit while contributing to the advancement of our fields.
Students should speak with an academic advisor before pursuing an independent study.
Independent Study Process
Step 1: Select an opportunity and student participantsIdenfity an opportunity for students to engage in your research and suitable students to support your work. Discuss the opportunity with the students and encourage them to speak with their academic advisor about how an independent study would fit into their career plan. |
Step 2: Complete the Project ProposalFacilitate the student's completion of the project proposal for their independent study project. They should complete the proposal before moving on to step 3, as they will upload the proposal when completing the required contract. |
Step 3: Complete the ContractAfter completing the project proposal, the student submits the independent study contract for approval. A copy of the approved contract will be returned to the student and will include the permission code required them enroll in the independent study course. |
Step 4: Student Enrolls in My RedUsing the permission code included in the approved contract, the student must enroll in the independent study course in MyRed. |
