Obituary: JL (John) Schmidt

JL (John) Schmidt, 77, was born December 20, 1946, in Scottsbluff, Nebr., and passed to eternity April 21, 2024. A Scottsbluff native and 1976 University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism graduate, Schmidt began his newspaper career at The Daily Nebraskan in 1966. He worked as a reporter, copy editor, business manager and night news editor.

Vaccaro immerses herself in the world of sports media

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is one of only a handful of universities in the country with a sports media and communication major. Regan Vaccaro — a sports media and communication and advertising/public relations double major from Overland Park, Kansas — has taken advantage of all it has to offer. We talked with her about getting hands-on experience, what motivates her and the people at Nebraska who have supported her.

Journalism students partnered with a new social media research program to enhance their election coverage on Nov. 8. Based in the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications, the Public Insight Lab conducts social media research with collaborators across campuses and the community to identify significant insights that inform action.

Bender and Anderson inducted into the 2022 Nebraska Journalism Hall of Fame

The Nebraska Journalism Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony was held Saturday, October 22, at The Graduate Hotel, in Lincoln, NE. This award honors those distinguished persons who have made significant contributions to journalism in their communities, the state, or the nation. A selection committee of NPA and journalism college representatives select the inductees.

Thomas selected as October Student of the Month

The UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications Student Advisory Board voted to select Peyton Thomas as the October 2022 Student of the Month. Thomas is a senior broadcasting, journalism and sports media and communication triple major from Gilbert, Arizona.
